The Power of Friendship

Last week, I met up with my netball friends for a meal. For twenty years, we played together every Tuesday night—until Covid (and a few injuries!) put a stop to it. But when we gathered again last week, it was like no time had passed. We slipped straight back into our groove, laughing, debating, and sharing stories like we always had. They are a wonderful group of women—feisty, sensitive, passionate about education, politics, work, right and wrong. It was a joyful evening, and it reminded me how precious true friendships are.

Friendship in the Workshop One of the things I love most about running jewellery workshops is the friendships I see in action. Mothers and daughters, best friends, sisters—all coming together to make something special. There is something incredibly uplifting about seeing two friends encouraging each other, being completely honest (andsometimes brutal!)about their efforts, and celebrating their achievements together. The kindness and support shared in these moments are a reminder that love comes in many forms.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it’s easy to get caught up in the idea that love is just about romance. But love is found in so many different places—friendships that span decades, the laughter of two friends making a piece of jewellery together, the small acts of kindness that remind us we are valued.
