In ancient Athens, the owl was the sacred companion of Athena, the goddess of wisdom and courage. It was said that Athena’s owl had the gift of sight in darkness, allowing it to see what others could not—just as wisdom helps us see beyond the obvious. A symbol of good fortune, Athena’s owl graced the drachma, making this coin a cherished emblem throughout Greek history.
I made a casting of an original drachma using the sandcasting method. My jewellery is handmade here in my studio and shop in Fakenham, North Norfolk. This necklace is hallmarked with my maker's mark, the mark of the Birmingham Assay Office and a date stamp. Hallmarking is a legal requirement and gives you confidence in knowing that your pendant is indeed made from sterling silver.
